Our Partner: One Home, Many Hopes

In Mombasa, Kenya, Anthony Mulongo started a home for abandoned girls in 2006, called Mudzini Kweto in Kiswahili. Mudzini Kwetu is currently home to over thirty girls, a handful of hens, three cows, ten turkeys, a vegetable patch, a few fruit trees and a donkey named George - all living  together on three acres of land. Mudzini Kwetu is truly "One Home Many Hopes"! The project is a pioneer in sustainability as its electricity is primarily solar, its water comes from their own well (piping to the main gate provides free water for the community 24/7), and they have recently launched a fish farm on site. Expected revenue from this business will contribute significantly to the operational costs of the home.

The Hovde House of Mombasa, Kenya

In the spring of 2011, the new Hovde House opened, replacing the former one right next to it.  The old one, a one story building, was overflowing with the 30 girls who called it home. The Hovde House presently houses 36 abandoned girls (ages 3 months to 18) with capacity of 60. New girls will be added in a manner that will protect the sisterly atmosphere the girls in the house already share, with a maximum of 15 girls (and 1 house mom) per floor.
